Pasta

Pasta is everyone's favorite dish, and it's that for a reason. It tastes amazing, you can buy it everywhere and it's cooked in 15 minutes with the only effort is turning on the stove and setting the timer. But- GastroMan is about cooking real food. Real food is made from scratch, and pasta can easily become real food.

A pasta machine does make the process easier and less messy. I'm using the YayPasta model from BestPastaMachine® - they did not sponsor this post in any way, and I paid every single cent of the machine myself. 340$ well spent I would say, although getting some help in paying it would have been nice.

But good food doesn't have to have a certain price tag, and a hand roller and a knife also do the trick. Although-with these few ingredients, making sure that they're of high quality really makes a big difference. Especially the quality of the egg is a game-changer.

Ingredients:
1 egg, beaten
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup flour
2-ish tablespoons water

Directions:
1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the flour, add the slightly beaten egg, and mix. The mixture should form a stiff dough. If needed, stir in some water.

2. On a lightly floured surface, knead dough for about 3 minutes. With a pasta machine or by hand roll dough out to desired thinness. Use machine or knife to cut into strips of the desired width.

Really that's it! Not an everyday thing in my opinion because it simply is a lot of work, but figure out what works for you! If you want to experiment a bit with the recipe, try mixing in spices with the flour before making the pasta. Oregano and basil are classics like tomato sauce and parmesan-but classic is boring. Try chili in the flour, and serving it with thin, smoked paprika stake. Skip the red wine and try a local Mexican draft beer. Go easy on the salt and pepper, but add in rosemary and mint along with the chili and paprika.

Most importantly-enjoy it!
